THE SEASON OF SACRIFICE AND REBIRTH
Lent is a season that many people dread. Giving up candy or going through weekly Stations of the Cross are two childhood recollections that spring to mind right away. Words like "sacrifice," "discipline," and "self-denial" are frequently employed in ways that imply that Lent is a period of suffering rather than grace and spiritual progress.
The Lenten Season is also a time when we reflect on our lives and consider whether our values are in line with one of God's goals for us. Because most of us stray from God's path, Lent serves as a second chance, or do-over, to "return to God with our full heart." Have you ever considered Lent as a once-a-year second chance? We're spotlighting those who have shared their Lenten traditions and memories with us. Their stories range from the religious and conventional to the innovative and unusual, but they all reflect attempts to make Lent a meaningful time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving for themselves, their loved ones, and their communities. Invite family members to talk about their Lent plans, goals, and wishes.
Whether we've opted to try something new this Lent or have stuck to our old habits, our Lenten rituals shape us and leave us with lasting memories. Allow these stories to inspire you to reflect on your own life and find strong and significant Lenten moments.
Hi there! I agree that Lenten rituals shape us and leave us with lasting memories. Lent is a great opportunity to show our appreciation for the sacrifices Jesus made for us and allows us to grow closer to God.
