STRENGTH AND BEAUTY

Woman empowerment is important in a society that is not as welcome to the idea of equality as ours. Empowering women does not just benefit our society but it also benefits the women we’re empowering, making them feel appreciated by those around them. I as a son of a single mother, appreciate her sacrifices.  




My mother, Rita P. Orio 

A single mother of 1 for the entirety of her parenthood. To me, my mom is a hero, she sacrificed 20 years of her life to ensure that her parents have a dissent life, 16 years of that ensuring my life was full of content. I could only imagine her pain she’s feeling not seeing her son in person for 14 and a half years, being able to hold me when I was little and go sick but despite not feeling any physical affection from my mom, I appreciate her sacrifices and love my mother with all my heart 




My aunt, Ligaya O. Sempio 

My aunt was the one taking care of me since the age of 1 to 3 then 9 till now, when I was sent home to the Philippines from my birth place, Greece, when I was 1, she's been the one taking care of me till I went to my uncle (my mom and my aunt’s brother) for 5 years then returning to our family home after my uncle died. Now that she has a daughter of her own to take care of and I’m at an age where I can take care of myself, I do what I can to help her like how she took care of me 




My cousin, Jorelisa Amour R. Orio 

I think of my cousin as am older sister, being there for me when I need anything, I appreciate that about her. Shes only 25 but she is a very independent person and rightfully so, when her mom was sick years ago, she stepped in for her younger brothers. When their mother died only last year, she is now helping her dad with financial situations. 


Being a family full of independent woman, I’ve always been mesmerized by their strength, physically, emotionally and mentally. I love and respect them and I appreciate their hard work not just towards me but to the people they encounter.

The resilience

The Philippines had been through its fair share of calamities. From earthquakes, typhoons to flooding and even draughts. All of these things has happened more than it needs to. Due to the Philippines geographical location, in which generally produce heavy rains and flooding a large area, as such it is needed that our country is resilient, to be ready at all times. It is very important to regain what was lost as fast as possible, because we don’t know when will the next calamity will occur. If ever we are unable to regain what has been lost during the calamity right away or worst, never at all. It will be fatal to the people residing within the confined of the are. So for that to not become possible we need to act fast, secure and accordingly.

FREEDOM AND LIBERTY CAME WITH A PRICE

Japanese planes also bombarded the American Far East Air Force's important sites in Manila, as well as the US Central Command. The Asiatic Fleet is stationed in the Philippines. A large number of American planes were shot down. The US Asiatic Fleet moved south after withdrawing its ships from their naval station in Cavite. The only force remaining to combat the Japanese was the submarine force.   Officials in charge of Bataan, where Filipino and American soldiers were the major opposition in the struggle against the Japanese, publicly surrendered on April 9, 1942. Today, we remember and honor our dead warriors from the Battle of Bataan, as well as our modern-day heroes.
